Latvia's young team overcame the reigning European champions 2:0 in an impressive collective display in Switzerland.
Mārtiņš Dzierkalns opened the scoring towards the end of the first period and Rūdolfs Balcers doubled Latvia's lead in the second period. Balcers was named Latvia's best player at the end of the match. Goalkeeper Kristers Gudļevskis could easily have taken the accolade as he was exemplary throughout.
