Around 4:00 PM, a passerby noticed a man fishing in the palace pond. The architectural ensemble of the Zwinger is considered one of the most outstanding monuments of late baroque in Europe. Perhaps this prompted the witness to call the police. Arriving officers interviewed witnesses. According to them, shortly before the police arrived, the man managed to catch a fish, but then released it back into the water. The police also conducted a breathalyzer test. The breathalyzer showed that the man's blood alcohol content was about 2.7 per mille. It was the state of strong intoxication that led to his temporary detention. The police have not yet reported on the further developments of the case. The pond at Zwinger Palace is home to carp, which are specially bred in this water body during the summer. ## Ukrainian Deported from Poland After Catfish Incident Recently, another fishing-related story gained wide resonance in Poland. This was recently [reported by bb.lv](https://bb.lv/statja/v-mire/2026/06/04/v-varsave-zaderzali-ukrainca-poimavsego-legendarnogo-soma-iz-ozera-balaton) A video appeared on social media showing two men. One of them caught a large catfish in a lake in the Warsaw district of Goślaw. After that, the fish was placed in the trunk of a car without access to water. On June 2, the alleged perpetrator of the incident — a 57-year-old citizen of Ukraine — was detained. He was later deported from Poland. In addition, the man was banned from entering Poland and other Schengen countries for five years. According to the Polish Border Guard, the decision was executed immediately. > "Given the nature of the case, the decision was given immediate execution status. On the same day, Border Guard officers took the man to the vehicle checkpoint in Dorohusk, where the decision was enforced, and the foreigner was handed over beyond the borders of the Republic of Poland," the agency's statement said. The Border Guard also stated that the presence of the 57-year-old man in Poland "poses a threat to public order."
