The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, stated that he may resign in the near future. This was reported by the publication Danas. During a broadcast on "Radio Belgrade," journalists asked the head of state if he plans to leave his position in three to four months. In response, Vucic noted that this could happen even sooner. "I have already started packing books in the Presidential Administration. I have a lot of them, and now I am thinking about where to move them," said the Serbian leader. At the same time, Vucic mentioned that he is considering the possibility of running for the position of Prime Minister of the country. He also stated that he will hold an important meeting soon, without specifying its details. The president added that parliamentary elections could take place in just a few months, and the question of specific timelines is a technical one. Furthermore, Vucic revealed that he regularly contemplates who among the current representatives of power could potentially become a candidate for the presidency of Serbia in the future. Earlier, the media reported that the Serbian leader is considering the possibility of holding early parliamentary elections by the end of this year. Since the end of 2024, large-scale anti-government protests have been ongoing in Serbia. The trigger for them was a tragedy at the railway station in the city of Novi Sad, where 16 people died as a result of a roof collapse. Following the incident, participants in the protests began demanding political reforms and the resignation of the current authorities. Aleksandar Vucic's statements about a possible imminent resignation and his interest in the position of Prime Minister may indicate preparations for serious political changes in Serbia amid the ongoing social and political crisis.
