On Friday, the annual exhibition of graduates from the Latvian Academy of Arts, "Definīcija" ("Definition"), will kick off in Riga, bringing together the diploma projects of students and the program of Design Days. The works will be presented at several venues: in the academy buildings at Kalpaka Boulevard 13 and Kronvalda Boulevard 4, in the art space "Pilot" on Richard Wagner Street, as well as in the urban environment of Riga. The exhibition will be open daily from 12:00 to 19:00 until June 28, except for the period from June 22 to June 24. For visitors, this is an opportunity to see what young artists and designers are currently engaged in before many of them begin their professional careers and appear at major exhibitions or in creative industries. This year, the central theme of the project is the concept of definition and rethinking. Through their diploma works, graduates reflect on identity, memory, social processes, the impact of technology on humans, and the boundaries between personal and collective experience. The organizers emphasize that this is not so much about finding ready-made answers but about the very process of understanding the surrounding world and one’s place in it. A separate part of the program is dedicated to design. As part of Design Days, more than 40 projects will be presented in the academy's premises and "Riga Makerspace". The works cover a wide range of areas—from material research and product design to projects related to technology, user experience, and modern manufacturing processes. This allows us to see how the role of design is changing: today it is increasingly perceived not only as the creation of an object but also as a way to solve practical and social problems. The exhibition will last until the end of June and will become one of the largest platforms to get acquainted with the new generation of Latvian artists and designers.
