Latvia should already take additional steps to reduce cooperation with Russia, especially in the areas of transportation and trade. This opinion was expressed on the program "Ziņu top" on TV24 by Riga City Council member and parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of Climate and Energy Einars Cilinskis. According to him, a number of decisions can be made immediately, without waiting for new international agreements or pan-European measures. In particular, the politician does not see the need to maintain the current volume of bus services between Latvia and Russia. "I don’t see why it would be necessary to support such bus services with Russia as exist now," Cilinskis stated. He emphasized that this is not just an economic issue. "This is no longer just an economic question; it is also a matter of security. We see that geopolitical risks have increased, and thus people with bad intentions can enter the country," he noted. Cilinskis also believes that Latvia needs to continue reducing the level of direct trade with Russia. In his opinion, even if it is impossible to completely sever such ties at once, the state can gradually reduce them in various areas. "If it is not possible to close everything at once, there are still many things that can be started and reduced," the politician said. According to Cilinskis, Latvia has a wide range of tools for gradually reducing cooperation with Russia.
