During the visit, Brigade Commander Lieutenant Colonel Eriks Keisters briefed the president on the unit's area of responsibility, its structure, and its tasks in ensuring national defense. Rinkēvičs also inspected the equipment and assessed the combat readiness of the medical and engineering companies, as well as the weapons of mass destruction protection company. Additionally, the president was informed about the experience of these units in interacting with civilian institutions. At the end of the visit, the head of state visited the 13th Infantry Battalion of the National Guard, which is one of the largest units of the organization. - The 1st Riga Brigade of the National Guard plays an important role in ensuring the defense of the capital of Latvia and strategically important state facilities located in its vicinity, - stated the President of Latvia following the trip.
