Президенты стран Балтии

Riga, July 1, LETA. During a state visit, Latvian President Edgars Rinkēvičs discussed the progress of the railway project "Rail Baltica" with Estonian President Alar Karis. At a press conference following the negotiations, Karis noted that "Rail Baltica" is one of the most important projects, and that even more joint efforts are needed to complete it. Rinkēvičs, for his part, emphasized that Latvia views "Rail Baltica" as a strategic project for the entire region, which is important not only for the development of economic cooperation and passenger flow but also for ensuring military mobility. "The new Latvian government is also working on this project as one of its priorities," the president said. He stressed that the Baltic countries need to negotiate jointly with the European Union (EU) to secure funding for the project in the next planning period. "We also need to work on addressing the mistakes and issues that were previously identified in project management. And I am confident that together we can achieve this," said the President of Latvia. Earlier, Bb.lv reported that the Prime Minister of Latvia stated: "The Estonians are living a bit in a dream world," regarding plans to open rail service on the new route by 2030.
