At the time of preparing this information, the Central Election Commission has registered candidate lists from 7 political forces to participate in the elections for the 15th Saeima. The last day for submitting lists is Sunday, July 5. Thus, many parties have decided to submit their lists, so to speak, at the last moment. It is already known that the ruling party - the United List - will submit its candidate lists tomorrow, while on Saturday, the Union of Greens and Farmers and 'Sovereign Power' are expected to submit their lists. The list of a newcomer to the political race - the party 'We Change the Rules' - is also on the way. It can be expected that the New Conservative Party and the 'Gobzem's List' will soon submit their lists as well. The party 'For the Development of Latvia' has also applied to submit a candidate list. From this, it can be concluded that at least 14 parties and associations will participate in these elections. Let us remind you that on the first day of registration, the National Alliance and 'Austošā saule' submitted their lists, followed by the registration of the lists from the party 'Stability!', 'Latvia First', 'Progressives', and today the Central Election Commission gave the green light for candidates from the 'Harmony' and 'New Unity' associations to start in the elections. It should be noted that 'Harmony' is returning to the political scene in a somewhat updated form, considering that in recent years the party 'Harmony' participated in the elections - now 'Harmony' has become part of a broader association. The leader of the Riga list and candidate for prime minister is the veteran of Latvian politics, Jānis Urbanovičs. Notably, the candidate lists also include other veterans of Latvian politics who previously belonged to other parties - in particular, former Saeima deputies Kārļis Krēsliņš and Valdis Kalnozols. In turn, the leader of 'New Unity' for Riga is the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Baiba Braže, while the candidate for prime minister from this party, Arvils Ašeradens, is second on the Riga list. The 'New Unity' list also has quite a few veterans of Latvian politics - for instance, former Saeima deputy, former Member of the European Parliament, and former deputy of the Riga City Council, former Minister of Education Kārļis Šadurskis is running. The list also includes former Saeima deputy and former minister Girts-Valdis Kristovskis. Former prime minister Evika Siliņa heads the list of this political force in Vidzeme. It should be noted that next week there will be a draw, after which each political force will receive its number - based on this, the lists will be arranged in stacks and given to each voter. The competition for seats in the new Saeima will traditionally be very high - already now, 740 candidates are vying for 100 deputy seats, which means more than 7 people for one deputy seat.
