The coffin with the body of Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei was delivered to the holy city of Najaf for Shia Muslims on Tuesday after the funeral events in Iran were completed. According to Iraqi state television, the coffin was welcomed at Najaf International Airport by Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi along with high-ranking government officials and clergy. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also arrived in Najaf to participate in the mourning events. After an official meeting with Iraqi authorities and leading Shia religious figures, a mourning procession began in the city. Najaf is considered one of the main centers of Shia Islam. It is home to the mausoleum of Ali ibn Abi Talib — the cousin and son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, whom Shia Muslims revere as the first Imam. The city receives millions of pilgrims from around the world every year. On Wednesday, Iraqi authorities plan to hold a large public procession in memory of Ali Khamenei. It is expected that tens of thousands of believers from Iraq, Iran, and other countries in the region will participate in the ceremony.
