Депрессия и алкоголь

The specialist emphasizes that alcohol abuse is dangerous for any person; however, there are conditions where even small amounts of alcohol can seriously harm the body. ## Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) According to the doctor, in people with ADHD, alcohol can exacerbate the main symptoms of the disorder — impulsivity, difficulties with concentration, and emotional instability. > "Alcohol enhances impulsivity. Many symptoms that we do not want become more pronounced, while all positive effects, on the contrary, are dulled," explains doctor Alex George. He states that this is especially dangerous for people whose ADHD is combined with anxiety or depressive disorders. ## Depression Another condition for which specialists recommend avoiding alcohol is depression. Alcoholic beverages are classified as substances that depress the central nervous system, so they can intensify the symptoms of the disorder and reduce the effectiveness of treatment. The combination of alcohol with antidepressants poses particular danger. Some medications are incompatible with alcohol and can cause severe side effects. > "During depression treatment, alcohol consumption can not only worsen well-being but also increase the risk of dangerous complications," warns the specialist. Constant feelings of hopelessness and lack of motivation The doctor also advises people who experience emotional burnout, loss of motivation, and a feeling of being "stuck" in life to refrain from alcohol. According to him, alcohol does not help solve psychological problems and often only exacerbates them. > "If you feel that you cannot achieve your goals and constantly feel stuck, it is worth giving up alcohol and seeing how your condition changes," believes Alex George. ## Important to Remember Specialists note that alcohol can interact with many medications, exacerbate symptoms of chronic diseases, and negatively affect the functioning of the brain, liver, heart, and other organs. Doctors remind that there is no safe dose of alcohol for health. People with mental disorders, as well as those taking medications, should be especially cautious. If alcohol consumption worsens well-being or interferes with treatment, it is better to completely refrain from it and discuss the situation with the attending physician.
