In comparison, just a few years ago this volume was nearly six times smaller. Today, Latvia surpasses even traditional leaders in digitalization - Finland, Estonia, and South Korea - in mobile internet consumption. The Internet is no longer just for smartphones Experts note that mobile internet is increasingly becoming the primary means of connecting to the network at home. Whereas previously traffic was mainly consumed by smartphones and laptops, now televisions, gaming consoles, tablets, surveillance cameras, smart speakers, robotic vacuum cleaners, lawn mowers, and dozens of other devices are simultaneously connected to the internet. In modern families, 10 or more internet-connected devices can be in use at the same time, which is why the volume of data consumed continues to grow rapidly. ## ## The Main "Traffic Eater" - Video User habits have also changed. While mobile internet was previously used mainly for messaging, email, and information searches, today the lion's share of traffic is taken up by: watching videos; streaming services; online television; short videos on social media; videocalls; cloud services; online games. According to estimates by international analysts, more than two-thirds of all global internet traffic is already accounted for by video content, and this share continues to grow due to the spread of HD and 4K video. ## ## Almost All Residents of the Country Use the Internet According to the Central Statistical Bureau, 93.6% of Latvia's residents regularly use the internet. Moreover, mobile internet is becoming increasingly in demand not only on the go but also at home, gradually replacing traditional wired connections for many users. Experts expect that with the further spread of smart devices, video services, and artificial intelligence technologies, the volume of mobile internet traffic will continue to grow in the coming years.
