As Postimees reports, such exercises have not been conducted in this area for a long time. The novelty of this incident, which was heard on the Estonian side of the lake, is the fact that the exercises took place on water rather than at the land border. "This is certainly not an ordinary event. Russia has not conducted weapon exercises on Lake Chud. In this sense, it is something new," said Minister of Defense Hanno Pevkur. Although Estonia knows which agency or unit organized the exercises, Pevkur did not disclose this information. According to him, it seems that the participants in the exercises were tasked with combating maritime drones. "Fire was directed at a moving target on the water. Perhaps the weather did not allow them to be conducted in the Gulf of Finland, or for some other reason they took place on Lake Chud. Or perhaps the units behind Piirissaar Island were also given such a task. Previously, the Russian border service had not done anything like this.
