As previously reported, yesterday the Cabinet postponed the consideration of the government’s action plan. The reason is that many proposals in this plan are not covered by funding. In other words, there is simply no money in the budget to implement these plans. This news was met with a very strong reaction from many Latvians, who asked why such a plan was even made knowing that there is no money?! Here’s how Guntars Vitols, advisor to the Minister of Finance, commented on this on the social network X: "If there’s no money, then there’s no money. You can speculate and emotionally lament, but that won’t make your wallet any thicker. How did such a situation arise? An action plan for the government where not all points can be fulfilled? Very simply, it couldn’t be any other way. Even theoretically, not at all. To form a government, a coalition, all parties agreed to come together only on the condition that each brought and laid their 'wishes' on the table. They piled them up. Because this was no marriage of love; that doesn’t happen in politics. Essentially, a list of election promises was presented. If all of this hadn’t been included in the declaration, there would have been no government. And, in my opinion, it’s good that someone is saying this now. Instead of continuing to pretend and maneuver, which is a chronic disease for most politicians." In simple terms, this means that those who created this government initially understood that they could not fulfill all their promises, but before the elections, they wanted to make beautiful promises. Now, however, they have to admit that at least until the elections, it is impossible to fulfill all these grand plans - there’s no money!
