The Lithuanian company "Energijos skirstymo operatorius" (ESO) and the Latvian "Sadales tīkls" signed a corresponding memorandum of understanding, ESO's press service reported on Wednesday. The aim of the agreement is to enhance readiness for large-scale power supply outages. "The storms of recent years in the Baltic countries have shown that the scale of natural disasters can exceed the capabilities of a single operator. The exchange of experience, joint preparation, and the ability to rely on each other will allow for a more effective response to emergencies," said ESO head Renaldas Radvila. Chairman of the Board and CEO of "Sadales tīkls" Sandis Jansons noted that the power grids of the Baltic countries face similar challenges - from storms and heavy snowfall to other extreme phenomena that can damage infrastructure. The memorandum of understanding provides for the exchange of knowledge, experience, and equipment, the need for which is constantly growing in the aftermath of emergencies. The document emphasizes that any mutual assistance will be provided only to the extent that it does not contradict each operator's obligation to ensure the safe and reliable operation of their power grid. It is also stipulated that specific mechanisms for cooperation may be detailed in separate agreements in the future.
