Hungarian Defense Minister Romulus Rusin-Sandy stated that the new leadership of the country aims to restore trust with NATO allies and is reviewing the foreign policy course of the previous government. Speaking at a discussion panel in Budapest, the head of the defense ministry emphasized that Hungary's interests align with those of its partners in the Alliance. "Hungary must restore trust with its allies. As for the Russians - we are closing the doors on them," Rusin-Sandy said. According to him, one of the first steps of the government was to apologize to several allies, including Finland, whose NATO membership was delayed due to the position of Viktor Orban's cabinet. The minister noted that he considers the actions of the previous authorities unacceptable and not in line with the country's interests. During Viktor Orban's premiership, Hungary repeatedly postponed the ratification of Finland and Sweden's applications for NATO membership. In the case of Sweden, Budapest became the last country in the Alliance to approve its membership, completing the ratification process only after Turkey.
