Is the Strait of Hormuz no longer needed? The U.S. has supported the idea of a pipeline between Iraq and Syria, reports RTVI US. Washington has backed plans by Iraq and Syria to restore the Kirkuk–Baniyas pipeline to reduce global supply dependence on the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's policies, according to Reuters and Bloomberg. Negotiations with both countries and with Chevron are being led by Donald Trump's special envoy Tom Barrack, and the White House hopes that American companies will participate in the project. The reconstructed pipeline will stretch from Iraqi fields to the western coast of Syria. This route has been idle since the U.S. invasion of Iraq in 2003. Trump raised the issue of oil in a meeting with the new Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaydi, stating that the country has "huge reserves" and "real revenues." The American president said that the U.S. does not need military action, but they are ready to help and protect Iraq. Meanwhile, Washington plans to complete the withdrawal of its troops from Iraq by September 30.
