The majority of residents in Latvia do not consider it necessary to raise the retirement age above the current 65 years. This is evidenced by the results of a survey presented in the program "900 Seconds" ([TV3](https://tv3.lv/zinas/aptaujas/vai-latvija-butu-japalielina-pensionesanas-vecums/)). According to the study, 87% of residents in Latvia aged 18 to 65 oppose raising the retirement age in the near future. At the same time, 71% of respondents stated that this should definitely not be done, while another 16% answered that they are rather against such a measure. Only 8% of those surveyed support raising the retirement age. Of these, 3% believe that this step is definitely necessary, while another 5% lean towards considering it. Another 5% of survey participants could not provide a definite answer. The issue of the retirement age remains relevant for many European countries against the backdrop of an aging population and increasing pressure on pension systems. For instance, in Germany, there is a discussion about the possibility of gradually raising the retirement age to 70 by 2090 to adapt to demographic changes. However, the survey results show that the residents of Latvia are not yet ready to support similar changes. The overwhelming majority believes that the current retirement age of 65 should not be increased. The discussion about the future of the pension system is likely to continue as the demographic situation changes, but public support for raising the retirement age remains extremely low at this time.
