According to him, the goal of the initiative is to ensure that military personnel have optimal hormone levels to maintain physical fitness and high combat effectiveness. "This is not about artificially boosting levels. It’s about restoring and optimizing the body’s natural capabilities," emphasized Hegset. Military personnel under 30 will also be able to undergo testing, but on a voluntary basis. The minister described the program as part of the concept of a "Department of War with High Testosterone Levels." As noted by Bloomberg, the initiative aligns with the U.S. administration's policy aimed at reducing the stigma surrounding testosterone deficiency treatment. Testosterone replacement therapy can be applied in cases of confirmed hormone deficiency and can improve energy levels, physical endurance, mood, muscle mass, and bone density. However, specialists warn of potential side effects, including reduced fertility, fluid retention, acne, and increased red blood cell levels. The Pentagon reminds that back in 2019, the U.S. National Institutes of Health studied the impact of testosterone therapy on reducing injuries and enhancing the effectiveness of military personnel in extreme conditions. The initiative is being implemented amid reforms taking place in the American defense department.
