The first footage from the film "Digger" surprised fans of Tom Cruise. The star of "Mission: Impossible" and "Top Gun" appeared in a completely unexpected guise: with thinning gray hair, wrinkles, a prosthetic belly, false teeth, and complex makeup that completely changes his face.  In the new film by Alejandro González Iñárritu, the actor plays the eccentric oil magnate Digger Rockwell — a billionaire whose company causes an ecological disaster that threatens to escalate into a global crisis. The character tries to convince the world that he can fix everything while simultaneously refusing to acknowledge his own responsibility. According to Cruise, the character was created down to the smallest details. The prosthetics changed not only his appearance but also his speech, facial expressions, gait, and manner of movement. "As soon as I put on the false teeth, I immediately felt my character," the actor said at the film's presentation. The new role is markedly different from Cruise's usual roles. Instead of endless stunts and spy missions, audiences can expect a satirical black comedy with elements of drama and disaster film. Director Alejandro González Iñárritu, a two-time Oscar winner for "Birdman" and "The Revenant," has been developing the project for nearly ten years. The film also stars Sandra Hüller, Riz Ahmed, Jesse Plemons, John Goodman, and Emma D'Arcy. The premiere of "Digger" is set for fall 2026. Critics are already calling Tom Cruise's transformation one of the boldest and most unusual of his entire career.
