In Liepaja, parents are fined for leaving children unattended. At what age can a child be left alone in Latvia?

The municipal police of Liepaja reports that this summer there have been multiple instances where children under the age of seven were left without adult supervision. Some were found at home, while others were in the yards of apartment buildings, at playgrounds, in parks, and other public places. Additionally, police recorded cases where children under seven were supervised by their siblings, who had not yet turned 13. Preventive talks were held with parents regarding each incident, and six administrative proceedings have already been initiated. The police remind that according to the law, a child can be left alone at home or in a public place only from the age of seven. Furthermore, only a person who has reached the age of 13 can supervise a child under seven. Law enforcement encourages parents to take responsibility for their children's safety. Even a brief absence of proper supervision can jeopardize a child's health, safety, and life.
