Every time we write in the chat window "Hello!" or "Thank you!" a large language model perceives this as a separate request and spends enormous computational resources on processing it. Recently, this was confirmed by OpenAI's CEO Sam Altman. A moral dilemma arises: on one hand, "the economy should be frugal" - there is a temptation to save millions of dollars. After all, at first glance, our courtesies seem unnecessary to a soulless machine? But on the other hand, it is important for us to maintain our own social habits. Because if we abandon "politeness requests," there is a risk of transferring a dry and callous communication style into the human environment. What to do? Should we adhere to the etiquette characteristic of human communication when interacting with artificial intelligence? The situation is commented on by Laurent Jacobs, PhD in Physics and Mathematics (engaged in digital transformation of enterprises and artificial intelligence). - When you ask AI something, in a sense, you are directly communicating with all of humanity, - explains Laurent Jacobs. - Because artificial intelligence is the child of all civilization; it embodies the collective work of all people on the planet. Firstly, the creators of ChatGPT recently reported that the language model was trained on all the data from the internet. This means that the neural networks processed everything that has ever been written by humans throughout the history of civilization. The only thing that ChatGPT and its colleagues have not read are the tomes and manuscripts that have not been digitized and lie in the reserves of archives and libraries. Secondly, Laurent Jacobs explains, artificial intelligence works thanks to the efforts of several generations of mathematicians and developers who proved the mathematical theorems underlying AI, developed algorithms, and trained the neural network. And thirdly, ordinary users contributed to the creation of AI because our queries, the texts we write on social media - all of this is used by developers to make the machine smarter. All our communication with the neural network becomes part of its experience, so to some extent, Alice, GigaChat, or Claude is a projection of your personality. - Artificial intelligence is the first technology in history that has been invested in by all of humanity - this cannot help but inspire respect, - says the scientist. - Therefore, for me, the question of whether to greet AI or thank it for a response does not arise. AI should be treated as a projection of a human. Moreover, it should be understood that as a biological being, it is difficult for us to see consciousness in a metal box with electricity, but from a mathematical perspective, the human mind and artificial mind are indistinguishable. And finally, the last argument: the AI that we are all currently "raising" will, in the near future, raise new generations of people. And our future depends on how kind and polite we make artificial intelligence.
