As reported by the State Chancellery, the task in preparing for the meeting was to make maximum use of existing state resources and conduct the event with minimal additional expenses. The meeting took place on June 27 at the "Luznava" military base of the National Armed Forces in the Rezekne region. The infrastructure of the State Chancellery and the military base itself was used for its organization, and external contractors were engaged only where state institutions could not provide the necessary services on their own. The largest expense item was the technical support for the meeting. For sound equipment, audio recording, organization of the video broadcast of the press conference, and preparatory work, 3,170 euros were paid, including VAT. These services were provided by the company "4.vara," with which the State Chancellery has a contract concluded following the public procurement procedure. Another 284 euros with VAT were spent on the coffee break. Catering was provided by a public catering enterprise from Latgale. If we divide the total expenses, almost 92% of the costs were for the technical support of the event, while the expenses for food amounted to about 8%. Off-site government meetings are held infrequently and are used to discuss issues directly related to a specific region. This time, the main topic was the development of Latvia's eastern border area, as well as security and sustainability issues in the region. Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs announced the intention to hold the meeting specifically in Latgale shortly after the new government took office. According to him, this format should help the government better understand the region's problems, make decisions to strengthen security, support tourism, and address the most pressing issues for residents. The State Chancellery emphasizes that additional expenses for holding the meeting were minimized by using existing state infrastructure and already active service contracts. On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the Cabinet of Ministers held an extraordinary off-site meeting in Latgale. In the closed meeting, the government assessed further actions to strengthen security in the eastern border of the country and considered a number of other issues.
