A new project is being developed in collaboration with the heirs of director Wes Craven, who directed the first film in 1984. It was his family that regained the rights to the original script in the U.S. in 2019 due to the peculiarities of American copyright law. Meanwhile, the international rights still belong to New Line Cinema. Details of the plot are currently being kept under wraps. It is only known that the action will once again take place in the 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' universe and will be based on events from the original film. Neither the cast nor the anticipated release date has been revealed yet. The first installment of the franchise introduced audiences to one of the most famous villains in film history — Freddy Krueger, who hunts teenagers in their dreams. If a victim dies in their sleep, death also occurs in reality. Over the decades, the series has expanded to include several sequels, a crossover with Jason Voorhees, and a 2010 remake; however, no new feature films about Freddy have been released in over 15 years.
