According to the local government, a corresponding request has already been prepared and will be sent to the Ministry of Smart Management and Regional Development. According to the municipality, approximately 80 millimeters of precipitation fell this week in less than 12 hours. This amount of rain caused significant damage to four municipal roads in the Pop and Puzas parishes. The affected roads include Spinny–Jaundobe, Liesupes–Kraces, Mazleju, and Stickli–Usma. In certain sections, the road surface was washed away, and in some places, the roads were completely destroyed. After inspecting the road network, specialists determined that the Liesupes–Kraces road was completely destroyed. On the Stickli–Usma road, part of the pavement was damaged, and on the Spinny–Jaundobe section, a culvert was washed away by a strong flow of water. The local government believes that its own funds are insufficient to address the aftermath of the disaster, and therefore, they are counting on state support from the reserve fund for unforeseen expenses. Ventspils Municipality is not the only municipality in Kurzeme facing significant damage after the heavy rains. Earlier, the authorities of Talsi Municipality estimated the cost of restoring damaged roads at approximately 500,000 euros and also stated the need for state assistance.
