The working group of the Saeima's Education, Culture and Science Commission has prepared a new version of the draft law on the further management of the Gors concert hall. It significantly differs from the initial version presented by the government this spring, writes Diena. While earlier there was discussion about the possibility of creating a separate fund and changing the management model, these ideas have now been abandoned. The property will remain the ownership of the Rezekne municipality, and the concert hall will continue to operate in its existing form. At the same time, the Ministry of Culture will receive broader powers to oversee the activities of the institution. This involves controlling the organizational processes and the operation of the concert hall. The new approach emerged after the initial draft law did not receive sufficient support. Following a closed meeting of the parliamentary commission, a working group was formed to prepare an alternative document. For now, this is just a working version. It is being sent for approval to the interested parties, including the Rezekne municipality and the Latvian Association of Municipalities. After receiving feedback, the document will be revised and only then submitted to the Saeima as a draft law from the parliamentary commission. In fact, the authorities decided to abandon the most controversial proposals from the first version of the document. This means that there are currently no plans to change the owner of the concert hall or to create a new management organization. Culture Minister Nauris Puntulis also acknowledged that the initial version of the draft law was unsuccessful. According to him, after discussions, a more balanced version was developed. The minister stated that he met with the leadership of the Rezekne municipality, and both sides reached a consensus: the Gors concert hall is significant not only for Latgale but also for the cultural life of all Latvia. The final decision on the new management model will be made after the draft law is finalized and considered by the Saeima.
