U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky plan to meet in Washington on July 28. This was reported on Friday, July 24, by Reuters, citing a source in the White House. Meanwhile, an unnamed source in Ukraine confirmed to journalists that Zelensky "is interested in a trip to the U.S.," but his team is waiting for official confirmation of Trump's schedule from the White House. According to this source, officials from Ukraine and the U.S. discussed the possibility of making a proposal to Russia for a ceasefire in the air as part of another package of proposals regarding possible conditions for ending the war in Ukraine. Kyiv has already proposed to Russian President Vladimir Putin to establish a ceasefire regime, but he rejected this proposal, the Ukrainian source told Reuters. However, Putin's position may change as Russia's economy is currently under significant pressure due to ongoing attacks from Kyiv using drones and missiles, some observers believe. ## ## Proposals for New Peace Talks with Russia On July 22, Volodymyr Zelensky discussed over the phone with U.S. President's special envoy Steve Whitcoff and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner the possibility of resuming peace talks with Russia, after which he stated that representatives from Ukraine and the U.S. could meet in the U.S. soon. On July 24, acting Minister of Defense of Ukraine Yevhen Khmara, as well as Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Mykhailo Drapaty and Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Ihor Skibyuk met in Kyiv with U.S. Permanent Representative to NATO Matthew Whitaker and, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine, discussed strategies to counter Russia on the battlefield, strengthening air defense, and deploying Patriot missiles. ## ## Volodymyr Zelensky's Visit to the U.S. On the same day, July 24, far-right activist and Trump supporter Laura Loomer conducted an interview with Zelensky, after which she stated that he told her about plans to visit the U.S. next week and meet with the head of state there. According to Loomer, Zelensky also intends to attend the funeral of Republican Senator Lindsey Graham. The farewell ceremony will take place on July 28 in Washington, Reuters reminds. Trump is expected to deliver a speech there. Graham is to be buried in his home state of South Carolina on July 29. Lindsey Graham was an active supporter of aid to Ukraine and visited the country 10 times since the beginning of the full-scale Russian military invasion.
