Another 14% of respondents reported that their monthly car expenses range from 300 to 500 euros, while 3% of drivers spend more than 500 euros a month. At the same time, 17% of those surveyed admitted that they do not know how much it costs them to maintain their car. Compared to other Baltic countries, car maintenance costs in Latvia and Lithuania are generally lower than in Estonia. In Latvia and Lithuania, 67% of survey participants indicated that they spend up to 300 euros a month on their car, while in Estonia, this response was given by 55% of respondents. 22% of Estonian residents reported expenses of 300 to 500 euros, 14% in Latvia, and 12% in Lithuania. More than 500 euros a month on car maintenance is spent by 5% of Estonian drivers and 3% each in Latvia and Lithuania. The cost of purchasing a car is only part of the total expenses. Additional costs include insurance, regular maintenance, seasonal tire changes, repairs, and other items that add up to a significant amount over the year. The lower expenses in Latvia and Lithuania are partly explained by the fact that the vehicle fleet in these countries is, on average, older, and many cars are already fully paid off, so their owners do not incur monthly leasing payments. In Estonia, however, total costs are increased by higher vehicle-related taxes and more expensive maintenance services.
