On Sunday evening, a tornado struck the town of Glückstadt in the federal state of Schleswig-Holstein. The storm damaged about 40–50 buildings, ripped roofs off houses, destroyed outbuildings, and damaged power lines, reports Der Spiegel. The most severe destruction was recorded in the industrial zone of the town. There, the wind nearly completely tore the roof off one of the hangars, and debris was scattered up to 100 meters away, damaging neighboring buildings. Several garages and garden sheds were literally ripped from their foundations and thrown onto adjacent properties. The German Weather Service (DWD) confirmed that it was indeed a tornado. According to preliminary estimates by the Tornadoliste project specialists, its strength corresponded to category **F1 on the Fujita scale**, which means wind speeds of 117 to 180 km/h. About 120 rescuers participated in the aftermath response. Some residents had to temporarily leave their homes. Despite the scale of the destruction, there were no injuries reported in Glückstadt itself. Preliminary estimates suggest that the damage from the tornado amounts to hundreds of thousands of euros; however, authorities do not rule out that the final sum could reach several million. Specialists continue to survey the affected areas and assess the consequences of the storm.
