The Minister of the Interior, Janis Dombrava, expressed his views on attempts to weaken migration control and liberalize migration legislation in an interview with Latvian TV. "In the Satversme, it is specifically stated that the Latvian state is created to guarantee the existence and development of the Latvian nation, its language, and culture through the ages. And for us, as a small nation, it is unacceptable that people from other regions of the world are entering Latvia en masse, resulting in our people being under threat. It is enough for at least 0.1 percent of citizens from India to come to Latvia, and Latvia will cease to exist in its current form!" the Minister of the Interior warned and added that "some marginal groups support mass immigration because for them the nation and its long-term existence mean nothing. However, the majority of the Latvian people do not want to be replaced by immigrants."
