As reported by the LETA agency from the press service of the Saeima, Mostyn arrived in Latvia for an official visit. This is the first visit of the Governor-General of Australia not only to Latvia but also to the Baltic states. Meirinya noted that August 27 will mark 35 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Latvia and Australia. During the meeting, the parties discussed bilateral relations, cooperation in the field of security and defense, as well as support for Ukraine. Meirinya thanked Australia for its consistent support of Ukraine and its principled position regarding Russian aggression. The interlocutors agreed that the international community must continue to provide comprehensive support to Ukraine until a just and lasting peace is achieved. They also discussed cooperation within the Drone Coalition, which Australia joined in 2024. In addition, the parties considered prospects for cooperation in the areas of economy, innovation, technology, and the defense industry. Meirinya highlighted Latvia's achievements in digital technologies, cybersecurity, and unmanned systems, as well as emphasized the potential of the two countries to expand collaboration in science and entrepreneurship. According to her, Latvia's exports to Australia increased by 20% in 2025. The role of the Latvian diaspora in strengthening relations between the two countries was also emphasized during the conversation. More than 20,000 people of Latvian descent live in Australia. The official visit of the Governor-General of Australia to Latvia takes place from July 28 to July 30. The program of the visit includes meetings with the highest officials of the country, as well as visits to the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia and the NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence.
