BMW wants to cut thousands of jobs by 2027. The German automotive group plans to reduce its workforce by 8,000 employees worldwide, including in Germany, according to news agencies. In Germany, the layoffs will occur through natural employee turnover, and those who agree to leave the company voluntarily will receive compensation, anonymous sources close to the company told dpa, as reported by Deutsche Welle. The cuts are likely to affect employees in the development and management departments, while the production department will not be impacted, Reuters reports, citing a statement from the company's press service. It is still unclear how much money will be allocated by BMW for the implementation of the layoff program. The BMW group has a total of 154,000 employees. Since more than half of them (84,000 as of the first half of 2026) work in Germany, and the compensation program is expected to apply here, it is very likely that more than half of the positions that will be cut will be in Germany, journalists believe. Earlier, other major German automakers, including Porsche, also announced plans to reduce their workforce.
