Starting today, the Latvian Public Media Holding (LSM) begins accepting applications for the 'Supernova' competition, the winner of which will represent Latvia at the 'Eurovision'. Songs can be submitted until October 1. The names of the participants who pass the jury selection will be announced in November. The main innovation of this season will be the updated format of the final. For the first time, it will take place on February 6 at the Xiaomi Arena and will conclude with a super final. As before, solo performers, duets, and musical groups of up to six members are invited to participate. All performers must be at least 18 years old by April 15 of the following year. One important condition is that the competition song must not be published, performed, or publicly played before September 1, 2026. The organizers have also retained the rule that sparked widespread discussion last year: compositions that are fully or partially created with the help of artificial intelligence are not allowed to participate. At the same time, foreign authors can participate in the creation of the song, but the total share of copyright and related rights owned by non-residents must not exceed 49%. The jury will evaluate not only the composition itself but also its originality, arrangement, vocal performance, potential for international success, and compliance with current trends in the music market. Previous achievements of the performers and their prospects for further development will also be taken into account. Another important change concerns the determination of the winner. After the main final, a super final will take place, featuring the three participants with the highest scores from the audience and the international jury. In the super final, voting will start anew — all votes cast in the previous stage will be annulled. The representative of Latvia at 'Eurovision' will be chosen solely by television viewers. In the last season, the winner of 'Supernova' was the singer Atvara with the song 'Ēnā', who represented Latvia at 'Eurovision-2026'. Now the organizers are starting the search for a new participant who will take the stage at the international competition next year.
