The United States expects to take new steps in the coming weeks to resume negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. This was stated by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in an interview with Fox News. According to him, the next two weeks will show whether it will be possible to restart the negotiation process and move closer to ending the war. At the same time, Rubio emphasized that the main obstacle remains the fundamental disagreements between the parties. "Both sides have quite rigid red lines, and until we can at least slightly narrow these red lines, we will not achieve the desired result," said the head of American diplomacy. He added that Washington is ready to seize any opportunity that could help resume negotiations and bring about a peaceful settlement. According to Rubio, new proposals are necessary to advance the process. Earlier, after a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, he noted that previous settlement options were unacceptable for Ukraine and, in his opinion, are unlikely to have become more realistic now. This means that a possible new round of negotiations, if it takes place, will most likely be based on different approaches than the previously discussed initiatives. In this context, according to UNIAN, special envoys of U.S. President Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner may visit Kyiv in the second half of August. Their visit may coincide with events marking the 35th anniversary of Ukraine's independence. So far, specific dates and the format of possible negotiations have not been announced. However, Rubio's statement indicates that the U.S. continues to seek opportunities to resume the diplomatic process.
