According to a survey conducted by the research company Norstat Latvia, 70% of residents in Latvia cannot accurately say how much they spend monthly on subscriptions and automatic payments. The study was commissioned by SEB banka. It is particularly noteworthy that 39% of respondents have forgotten to cancel a free trial period at least once, which then automatically turned into a paid subscription. If we add those who answer "maybe, but I don't remember," that number rises to 52%. Only half of the respondents can at least approximately name the amount of their monthly automatic deductions, while 16% admit they have no idea how much goes towards such payments. Most often, people regret subscriptions they hardly use. Video services topped the list (20%), followed by music platforms (18%) and paid features of mobile applications (17%). At the same time, 38% claim they regularly use all the services they pay for. Experts note that the problem is not with the subscriptions themselves. Each one costs relatively little - just a few euros a month. However, they can add up to tens, and sometimes even hundreds, of euros a year without notice, especially if a person no longer remembers which services they subscribed to months or even years ago. Financial consultants advise reviewing bank statements and the list of active subscriptions at least once every few months. It is not uncommon to find services among regular deductions that no one has used for a long time, yet continue to automatically withdraw money.
