In a small cardboard box lies an important artifact for the history of Estonia – the soles of tennis shoes in which Konstantin Päts was buried in 1956 at the cemetery of a hospital in the Kalinin region, where the first president of Estonia spent the last years of his life in captivity. "The attending physician of President Päts, Ksenia Guseva, recounted that when Konstantin Päts died, she told the chief physician of the hospital that the former president of Estonia had passed away and should be buried with due honors. The hospital found shoes and clothing for him – a jacket and trousers," said archaeologist Ants Kraut to "Aktuaalne Kaamera." Ants Kraut participated in the exhumation of Konstantin Päts's remains in 1990. He explains that only a small piece of fabric with buttons and cufflinks remained from the suit, and from the tennis shoes – rubber soles. The remains were reburied in Tallinn, while the items were left behind. The shoes were stored at the Archaeological Research Center of Tallinn University. Now, the question of their future is being decided.
