Latvian basketball player Arturs Zagars will continue his career in the Chinese championship. The Future Sports Group agency announced that the player has signed a contract for the next season with the Zhejiang Golden Bulls, competing in the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). This transfer will be historic for Latvian basketball — Zagars will become the first representative of Latvia to play in the strongest professional league in China. Zagars' new team finished last season in sixth place in the CBA regular season among 20 clubs. In the playoffs, the Zhejiang Golden Bulls reached the quarterfinals, where they concluded their title run. The transfer occurred a few weeks after Turkish club Fenerbahce decided not to extend its cooperation with the player. Zagars signed a contract with one of the strongest clubs in Europe in 2023 for a duration of three seasons. However, he spent his debut season after signing the agreement on loan at the Lithuanian club Wolves from Vilnius. During that time, the basketball player suffered a severe injury — a torn ACL, but managed to recover and return to the court before the end of the season. Before moving to Turkey, Zagars spent several years in the system of the Spanish club Joventut. During this time, he also played on loan for the Tallinn Kalev/Cramo, German Löwen Braunschweig, and Lithuanian Nevezis. The basketball player became particularly well-known to a wider audience after the 2023 World Championship, where he was one of the leaders of the Latvian national team. At that time, the national team sensationally took fifth place — the best result in its history at world championships. Moving to China will mark a new stage in Zagars' career. In recent years, the CBA has actively attracted players with experience in leading European leagues, and the level of competition continues to grow.
