Латвийская миссия

It is expected that Latvia will be represented by a unit of the Naval Forces for the disposal of explosive objects with autonomous search and demining systems. Latvian military personnel will work as part of an international diving group engaged in clearing the strait of naval mines. In addition, it is planned to send staff officers and instructors from the National Armed Forces to the operational area. They will work in operational and tactical headquarters located both in the territories of the coalition-leading countries and directly in the operation zone. The Ministry of Defense emphasizes that the Latvian contingent will participate exclusively in mine countermeasure operations, demining coordination, and other activities aimed at opening the Strait of Hormuz for safe international navigation. At the same time, Latvia will not participate in actions aimed at supporting the United States as one of the warring parties in the conflict with Iran. According to estimates from the countries leading the international coalitions, complete demining of the Strait of Hormuz may take from 12 to 16 months. Considering the rotation of personnel, it is proposed to approve the mandate of the Latvian contingent until September 1, 2028.
