Until now, the import ban applied to grains, vegetables, fruits, and certain feed products. In turn, the new rules stipulate that it will also apply to live animals, fish and fish products, dairy products, flour products, oilseed seeds, meat products, vegetable and fruit products, as well as all products from the feed category. The ministry notes that the ban will also extend to coffee, tea, and spices, certain types of animal and vegetable fats and oils, as well as sugar, molasses, and by-products of sugar production, which, according to the law, may be included in the national import ban as they fall within the scope of agricultural and feed products. The list of prohibited products has been expanded, as external trade data indicates that in 2026, several groups of agricultural and feed products continue to be imported into Latvia from Russia and Belarus, which were not previously covered by the ban. Data from the ministry shows that in the first seven months of 2026, agricultural, feed, and food products worth 24.9 million euros were imported from Russia and Belarus, where the value of agricultural and feed product imports amounted to 18.3 million euros, and the value of various food product imports was 6.6 million euros. The declared recipient countries included both Latvia and other European Union member states.
