The sea water temperature off the coast of Latvia on Friday morning ranges from +17 to +21 degrees, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre. The warmest water is observed off the coast of Vidzeme. Approximately +21 degrees was recorded at the Western Mole of Daugavgriva, as well as in the ports of Skulte and Salacgriva. Off the coast of Kurzeme, the water is noticeably cooler. In both the open sea and the Gulf of Riga, the temperature is +17…+19 degrees. The coldest water in the morning was recorded near Kolka — around +17 degrees. According to local authorities, on Thursday the water temperature at the official beaches of Liepaja, Ventspils, Jurmala, Riga, and Saulkrasti was +18…+20 degrees, which remains comfortable for summer swimming. However, specialists remind that a comfortable temperature does not always mean safe conditions. Due to strong waves and currents, swimming in the open sea is currently not recommended. Caution should also be exercised at the beaches of the Gulf of Riga. If conditions become dangerous, rescue services may raise the red flag. This indicates a complete ban on swimming regardless of the water temperature. Meteorologists also warn that due to the westerly wind, the water temperature off the Kurzeme coast of the Gulf of Riga and in Jurmala may drop quickly. Meanwhile, the water in inland bodies remains even warmer. In the largest rivers and lakes of the country, it has warmed up to +19…+24 degrees, with the highest temperature recorded in the Daugava in the morning.
