It should be noted that in July, at an extraordinary meeting of the Saeima, legislative amendments were urgently adopted, granting the government the authority to impose bans on certain industrial goods from Russia and Belarus. A list of goods prohibited for import from the Russian Federation and Belarus, prepared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has now been submitted for inter-ministerial approval. What goods will be banned? Here are excerpts from the draft resolution of the Cabinet: "Printed books, newspapers, images, and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typewritten documents, and plans." "Knitted or non-knitted clothing and clothing accessories" "Other finished textile products; sets; clothing and used textile products; rags." "Footwear, gaiters, and similar products" "Headgear and their parts" "Toys, gaming and sports accessories, their parts and accessories." The annotation to the draft emphasizes that "Latvia, as a border state of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus, is moving towards a swift severance of economic ties with these aggressor countries to protect its security. The draft regulations implement Latvia's initiative included in the law as an additional element of the overall EU sanctions policy." The document is expected to be approved at a government meeting no later than August 25 and will come into effect on September 1!
