As previously reported, tomorrow the government will discuss the situation in the national airline in a closed session. The situation is, to put it mildly, unfavorable, and it will not be possible to avoid another loan from the state (read: from taxpayers' pockets). To prepare the deputies for making unpopular decisions, an unofficial meeting of the Saeima's budget commission took place today, which will soon discuss the relevant document on the loan or - on the contribution to the equity capital. The official meeting of the budget commission is scheduled for next Tuesday - it will also be held in a closed session. The situation is so dramatic that the issue of the loan may need to be addressed very urgently - at an extraordinary meeting of the Saeima on August 20th. The exact amount in question is still unknown. However, since the interest on the bonds that airBaltic must pay amounts to just over 31 million, the loan amount will be no less than 31 million. To stabilize the situation, at least 100 million euros is necessary.
