The legendary Auto Union Type C became one of the main events of the Riga Day celebrations. The historic car drove through the central streets of the capital and then took its place at an exhibition near the Freedom Monument, where thousands of visitors were able to see it. Behind the wheel of the car was Audi factory driver Dindo Capello — a three-time winner of the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race. The parade route began at the Riga Motor Museum and passed through several districts of the city to the center of Riga. After the ride was completed, the car was displayed at the Freedom Monument, where the exhibition will last until the evening. The Auto Union Type C is considered one of the symbols of pre-war motorsport. The car, created under the guidance of Ferdinand Porsche, is equipped with a six-liter V16 engine with 520 horsepower and can reach speeds of up to 340 kilometers per hour. According to Agris Šmits, the director of the Riga Motor Museum, the sound of the Auto Union V16 engine was last heard in Riga in 1997. Therefore, the current visit of the car is the first in nearly three decades. The appearance of the legendary car was part of the program celebrating the 825th anniversary of the Latvian capital and one of the most unusual events of this year.
