On August 22 and 23, military exercises of the National Guard will take place at the site of the former sanatorium in Baldone. According to the Kekava municipality, the activities will occur both during the day and at night. During the exercises, military personnel will use training ammunition, so sounds of gunfire may be heard in the vicinity. Additionally, military vehicles will be moving on public roads. Residents are urged to remain calm if they see soldiers in full gear or military vehicles in the area where the exercises are taking place. All activities are planned in advance and are part of the preparation of the units. About 25 National Guardsmen will participate in the training. They will practice actions in wooded areas and improve their skills in urban environments. All participants will be armed with light firearms. It is important for local residents to know that the exercises do not involve large-scale work on the territory. The military will not dig trenches, damage the soil cover, or set up a tent camp. Organizers also assured that fire safety and environmental protection requirements will be followed during the activities. After the exercises, the area will be restored to its original condition. Such exercises are regularly conducted in various regions of Latvia and are part of the National Guard's preparation for national defense tasks, as well as the development of cooperation between the military and local governments.
