Interior Minister Janis Dombrava reported on social media about the results of restoring order at the border. "When I took office, the border guard had full visibility through surveillance cameras of only about 3% of the total length of the entire Latvian-Belarusian border. After a tougher conversation in July, everything changed for the better. As minister, I noted that despite the fact that surveillance cameras had already been installed along many kilometers of the border, the border guard did not have access to the cameras. The border guard in June could see only 5 kilometers of the entire BLR-LAT border. A tougher conversation was necessary, and within two weeks, the border guard was provided visibility over 108 kilometers of the LAT-BLR border. Now cooperation with LVRTC looks good. Visibility of the remaining kilometers will also be ensured at a faster pace than previously anticipated. Why wasn’t this done earlier? Let others evaluate that; I will focus my time on strengthening the security of our country and eliminating inefficiency and waste in the Ministry of Internal Affairs. If there is an opportunity to remain in office, I will be able to report in the coming months on the completion of the installation of cameras at the LAT-BLR border. However, we will likely implement several additional projects to ensure that the adversary cannot approach unnoticed," the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs wrote on social media.
