The commission emphasized that the security of electoral systems is one of the main priorities, and the organizers of the elections are confident that the security agencies are doing everything necessary to prevent any threats to the electoral process. The CEC acknowledged that recent cyber incidents have once again confirmed the need for particularly thorough security checks of electoral systems, as well as the timely identification and elimination of potential vulnerabilities. The commission reported that testing of electoral systems has been conducted since the beginning of July. Both the performance of the systems and potential vulnerabilities are being checked. The testing is carried out by the company "Tet," and its results are re-verified by "CERT.LV." When asked about measures to enhance the protection of residents' data during the electoral process, the CEC indicated that the electronic online voter registry is used during elections to verify citizens' rights to participate in voting and to register their participation in the elections. The system processes only the data necessary to ensure the electoral process and is not intended for accumulating extensive information about various aspects of residents' lives. As part of the preparations for the 2026 Saeima elections, an enhanced security check of the electoral platform modules, including the electronic online voter registry, is being conducted. This includes an independent cybersecurity audit, during which not only the information systems themselves are evaluated but also the process of their development. The CEC noted that the State Agency for Digital Development (SADR) has been cooperating with "Cert.lv" for a long time, using the cybersecurity services they provide to monitor the infrastructure and information systems in order to timely identify potential threats and respond to them. Additionally, performance testing and integration testing of the electoral platform are being conducted to ensure the security, stability, and continuity of the systems before the elections. At the same time, for security reasons, the technical architecture of specific protective solutions, their configuration, detailed results of security checks, and information about identified vulnerabilities are not publicly disclosed.
