The tour "Jelgava Prison Then and Now" is designed as a regular tour. It will be conducted by guide Inga Piljane and an experienced former prison employee. The prison can be visited every Wednesday at 12:00. The first public tour will take place on September 3 — exceptionally on a Thursday. In the future, tours will be held on Wednesdays. If visitor interest remains high, excursions are planned to be held on Saturdays starting in October. Visitors will be able to walk through the grounds of one of the oldest prisons in Latvia, which has a history of over a century, see historical buildings, and learn about various stages of the prison's development, the events that took place here, and the people whose fates were linked to this place. The organizers warn that the tour is not suitable for preschool-aged children. Parents are responsible for minors during the visit. Earlier, the Jelgava municipality received the territory of the closed prison on Palidzibas Street, 3 and 7 from the Ministry of Justice for use and management free of charge. The municipality is now developing a concept for the further development of this site. In the first month after the transfer of the territory, proposals were received to use the former prison for filming feature films. In this regard, rates for renting premises for film and other audiovisual projects have been approved. The rental cost for the territory of the former Jelgava prison for filming is set at 0.15 euros per square meter per day.
