The fighter against the Russian Theatre named after M. Chekhov, publicist Juris Ulmanis, decided to continue his campaign against this cultural institution - now he is protesting against how the theatre responded to the demand to remove the Russian language from the posters and the theatre's sign. As is known, the theatre simply covered the Russian words with green tape. Ulmanis saw this as... a manifestation of disloyalty and a certain form of protest. "From words to action! Today I submitted an official request to the Ministry of Culture, the Riga City Council, and the State Language Center regarding the prolonged hybrid protest of the Chekhov Theatre in the form of 'green tape' in the heart of Old Riga. A state-funded institution cannot demonstrate sloppiness and passive aggression towards the state language of Latvia in public space at the expense of taxpayers. The urban environment and the management of state companies must be loyal to the fundamental values of Latvia. This is not just a matter of aesthetics; it is a matter of national dignity.
