The noise of the engine and the smell of exhaust fumes – these were the conditions under which cows were milked for almost a week at the ‘Odzāni’ farm in Sauka parish. Using a tractor, it is only possible to milk one cow at a time, so the process takes four times as long as usual. However, at “Odzāni”, this was the only way to ensure milking could take place whilst there was no electricity.
