The confirmed number of fatalities resulting from catastrophic floods and landslides in the Himalayas in Nepal and the Tibetan region of China has exceeded 1000 people, according to data released by authorities on Tuesday. A total of 4462 people are considered missing. The disaster occurred on the morning of last Wednesday. In Nepal alone, 987 people died. Thus, the total confirmed number of fatalities in Nepal and China reached 1003 people. ### Search efforts continue on the seventh day Rescue and search operations have been ongoing for seven days. As the operation progresses, the number of discovered deceased is increasing. At the same time, the number of people reported missing and whose fate is unknown is decreasing. Currently, 3916 people are considered missing in Nepal. ### 16 people died in Tibet In the Tibetan region of China, the deaths of 16 people have been confirmed, with another 546 reported missing, according to Chinese state broadcaster CCTV. Thus, the officially confirmed number of fatalities in Nepal and China stands at 1003, while the number of missing is 4462. ### Bodies of the deceased are being found in India The consequences of the disaster have also affected neighboring India. Authorities in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh reported that the bodies of 17 people have been recovered from rivers flowing from Nepal. They are presumed to also be victims of the floods. Indian authorities are trying to identify the deceased. These 17 individuals have not yet been included in the overall casualty statistics of the disaster. Thus, the official number of fatalities resulting from the natural disaster in the Himalayas has already exceeded one thousand, but the final scale of the tragedy remains unknown. More than 4400 people are still missing, the search continues on the seventh day, and bodies of presumed victims of the disaster are being discovered beyond Nepal—in rivers in India.
