In educational institutions in Latvia, about **224,000 students** will be studying in the new academic year. According to the Ministry of Education and Science (MES), among them are approximately **19,000 first graders** and **2,500 children from Ukraine**. About **26,000 teachers** will be involved in the education of students. On September 1, **455 municipal educational institutions** will open their doors: 23 primary schools, 234 basic schools, 168 secondary schools, and 30 state gymnasiums. In addition, the new academic year begins in **37 special education institutions** and **72 private schools**. In vocational education, the number of students, according to the MES forecast, will remain approximately at last year's level — about **28,000 people**. Of these, about **10,000** will enroll in the first year at 53 vocational education institutions this year.
